I hope that everyone had a joyful, peaceful and healthy holiday! For the first time since Olivia was born, we stayed home and didn’t have anyone over. We stayed in our pajamas, took naps and had sandwiches for dinner. I can honestly say that it was one of my favorite Christmases ever!
As you probably know, I am an avid reader and spend a good amount of time with my nose in a book. With the new year only a few days away, I started thinking of ways to branch out and change up my reading a little bit.
This year, I have found many new authors and books that I have really enjoyed like Megan Miranda, Claire Douglas and Fannie Flagg. I really want to continue exploring and expanding my reading.
I have seen lots of different reading challenges on Pinterest, from one new book a week to one a month. I have never participated in these challenges but, my plan for 2018 is to commit to one! So, I decided to come up with one of my own!
Originally, I was planning to pick 12 specific books or authors to read throughout the year. I want this to be something anyone who loves reading can do with me however, so I changed my idea! For this reading challenge, I have thought long and hard about different kinds of books I have read and ones I would like to read.
After doing some research and brainstorming, I came up with a list of categories to help you find new and interesting reads or re-visit old favorites! My plan is to check in once a month, starting in January, and let you know what book I have chosen to dive into and my thoughts on it.
For the first month of this reading challenge, read a novel by a deceased author, I am going to read “After The Fire” by Henning Mankell. The author passed away in 2015 and this story is about an elderly recluse whose life is changed after his house burns down in a fire and he is forced to step out of his comfort zone. This book sounds like it is going to be wonderful and I am so excited to start reading!
Currently, I am working on a reading challenge for kids that I am hoping to share with you by the end of this week so stay tuned! I hope you will come along with me and participate in this challenge! What book would you choose to read in January? Do you have a favorite author who is deceased? Comment below or e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org. XOXO
