“Great things never came from comfort zones” – InspirationalQuotesMagazine.com

For many years, I have been thinking about and talking about starting a blog! Writing is something I am very passionate about and something I genuinely just love to do.

In October, after I finally decided on the name Karen Sincerely, I took the plunge into the blogging world! What a ride it has been so far!

These past three months have been filled with ups, downs and everything in between. I really want to share with you guys what I have learned so far in my blogging journey. I am so excited to see where my little corner of the internet takes me and I am so glad you are coming along with me!

Let’s get started!

1. Don’t let the fear of failing stop you

I wanted to put this bit of advice first because I feel like it is the most important! I was honestly terrified to start this blog because I was scared to fail. Now that I have been blogging for about three months, I wish I had launched sooner! I am not afraid to fail anymore because even if something doesn’t work, which trust me lots hasn’t worked, it doesn’t mean I can’t do this. I have learned to be open to where this blog takes me and okay with learning from my mistakes!

2. Social media is a necessary evil

Oh social media. We have a love/hate relationship! I know that a social media presence is extremely important but boy has it been rough! Almost everything that I have read says that Pinterest is a great source of traffic for blogs so that is something that I have really been focusing on. Currently, 98% of the traffic to my site comes from social media so I am determined to learn all I can and grow!

3. Promote, Promote, Promote

When I first launched the blog, I was so focused on content that I wasn’t paying enough attention to promoting and getting Karen Sincerely out there! Recently, I have shifted some of my focus and I have seen a HUGE change in the number of views and interactions on the site which is so exciting! Each day I am setting aside an hour, not for writing, but for strictly promoting! What good is having amazing content when no one is reading it?

4. Connect with other bloggers

One thing I have done since I started my blog was to reach out and connect with other bloggers! I joined a few Facebook groups where I have met some really awesome people. I have learned so much from other bloggers’ questions and have been able to ask some of my own. There are also days during the week where you can share either social media accounts or links to posts and support each other! If you are just starting out, definitely search for some groups you can join!

5. Don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s

This is a HUGE one for me! There are so many successful bloggers out there and it is so easy to compare yourself to their success. I have found myself so many times seeing someone else’s instagram or reading income reports from other bloggers and feeling inadequate. But something I have learned is that no one’s journey is the same as mine! There is nothing wrong with being inspired by another blogger, there are a lot of blogs I follow and absolutely love, but I am learning to embrace my journey.

6. Learn as much as you can

There is so much more to blogging than just sitting down and writing! I hadn’t really grasped the extent of the work that goes into creating, building and growing a successful blog. I have enrolled in numerous free courses and workshops, purchased an e-book and attended a few webinars in the three months that I have been blogging. There are so many resources out there, use them! I want to keep learning and researching everything I can to help me be successful in this world of blogging!

7. Make a schedule

I recently purchased a small planner, something similar to this, that I am using strictly for scheduling my photos! I also have a bullet journal that I use to plan out posts for the week and usually one week in advance too. I have found that I work so much better when everything is planned out and I can clearly see my goals for that day. A very small planner or calendar can help keep you organized and on task!

8. Be Patient

You can ask my husband.. patience is not a virtue I was blessed with! I have such a hard time taking my time and allowing things to fall as they will. But I am learning that that is crucial when you are a blogger! It is not going to happen overnight. Most bloggers will not have 1,000 page views their first week of blogging or 1 million followers on Instagram when they launch. It may take time but with hard work and dedication, anything is possible. Don’t get discouraged if it is taking longer than you expected! Keep working and it will come!

9. Never let anyone dull your sparkle

Seriously! There will be people who don’t understand your journey. That’s okay! It is yours, not theirs. This is something that has been difficult for me to accept but I am learning to. Just do your thing and let everything else fade into the background!

I have learned so many things about myself, my family and being a blogger in these three short months! I am truly enjoying this ride so far and am looking forward to the future of Karen Sincerely! XOXO
