“And the sun took a step back, the leaves lulled themselves to sleep and Autumn was awakened.” – Raquel Franco

Oh, Autumn. The time of year when I feel the most alive and the happiest.

When the leaves begin to change color and the evenings have a cool breeze that makes me want to cuddle up in my blanket and take a walk all at the same time, I feel so peaceful. It almost instantly comes over me and changes my mood.

Basically, I am that person who is constantly drinking pumpkin coffee and watching every “Fall Harvest” Hallmark movie on Saturdays. My poor husband.

10 Simple Ways To Slow Down And Enjoy The Fall With Kids

Luckily for me, he indulges me and buys me all the Pumpkin Spice creamer he can find.

There are so many ways to celebrate this beautiful season, especially when you are a parent. I love making amazing memories with my daughter and this year, we are all about finding simple ways to enjoy Fall.

Since we have been on a journey to living a more simple life, we have started valuing moments over things. We have been learning to appreciate the quiet and slow times in our life and it has been SO amazing.

If you are looking for new ways to truly embrace this season and spend time this Fall with your kids, I am going to share with you 15 simple things you can do together to enjoy the special moments that this season brings!

1. Visit a pumpkin patch

I know this is a given but it is honestly my favorite Fall activity. I like to pick a day that is going to be chilly, get my boots and skinny jeans on and pick out a few pumpkins! We go to the same farm and take a hayride through the woods. I look forward to doing this all year long.

2. Have dinner outside on a cool evening

The early mornings and evenings are the best time of day this time of year. Before the weather turns too cold to really enjoy the outside, grab your dinner and sit outside together. Enjoy feeling the cool breeze on your face while you eat your meal.

3. Take a drive to see the changing leaves

One thing my husband and I love to do is to get in the car and drive around. We go to different towns, explore different areas of where we live and find new spots to sit and enjoy nature. Especially when the leaves are changing colors, it is the perfect time to put the windows down, drive around and admire all of the beauty around you.

4. Read Halloween and Autumn books

Head over to your local library and pick out a few books that are either Halloween related or all about Fall. Cuddle up on the couch with your blankets, turn off all electronics and dig into these adorable books.

5. Go apple picking

Another favorite of mine is to go apple picking! We try to find all different colors, sizes, shapes and kinds of apples to bring home. Although I can’t eat fruit, I have a fructose intolerance, my daughter absolutely loves apples so this is so much fun to do together.

6. Make homemade applesauce with the apples you pick

Take the apples that you picked and make some homemade applesauce. We love to make the applesauce together and add cinnamon to the recipe. We love to do this every Fall!

7. Carve pumpkins

I’m not very good at carving pumpkins but I absolutely adore doing it. Take your pumpkins outside and see who can carve the best pumpkin. By the way, I always lose this competition!

9. Bake cookies together

On an evening when you have nothing to do, get in the kitchen with your little ones and bake a batch of cookies. Even if you make a mess in the kitchen or the kids get egg shell in the batter, focus on enjoying this one-on-one time with your little ones!

10. Collect leaves and make a craft with them

Crafts, crafts, crafts! I can never get enough of crafts. For the Fall, get outside and collect all the leaves you can find. Search for all different colors and sizes of leaves and sit down to make a craft together. If your craft is as simple as gluing the leaves to a piece of paper, then that is perfect. The point isn’t to worry about what you’re making, its about the time that you’re spending together.

This Fall, don’t let the busyness of everyday life get in the way of taking in all this season has to offer. It doesn’t last long, only a few weeks actually, so enjoy it while you can!
