6 Tips To Have A More Peaceful Morning

“The day will be what you make it, so rise, like the sun, and burn” – William C. Hannan

Okay, let me start this off by saying that I am the farthest thing from a morning person! Seriously, I drag myself out of bed most mornings and am tired no matter what time I went to sleep the night before.

I have tried for years to be like my husband, who wakes up in the morning ready for the day, but it hasn’t worked yet! Since our daughter has been in school, our mornings can be hectic, rushed and frustrating. When she was little, we would get up when we wanted and were on our own schedule. Now, we have to be out the door at a certain time and start our day!

When I leave the house in a bad mood from arguing with my little one, which happens more than I would like to admit, I have a hard time turning it around for work! I have been working on this for a few months now and since implementing a few new things into my morning, it goes so much smoother.

Don’t get me wrong, not every morning is peaceful! There are plenty of mornings that just don’t get as I planned but the majority of our mornings now are quiet, relaxed and happy.

I want to share with you guys a few things I do now that have made a huge difference in my day!

Prep the night before

Okay guys if you take anything from this post, I hope it will be this! One of my friends told me about prepping the night before so I thought I would try it and oh my gosh, what a world of difference! Before I go to bed, I put everything in my daughter’s lunchbox that doesn’t need an ice pack. Then, I get all of her food together in the fridge so in the morning, I just grab them and put them in her lunch box! I do the same with my lunch too. I’m telling you, this cuts out so much time in the morning and really helps cut down on the stress that can build!

Fight the urge to hit the snooze button

This is something I have been working on for awhile now and still can’t seem to do! But, on the days where I don’t snooze my alarm, I have so much more time to get ready. If you can, get up or at least don’t fall back asleep when your alarm goes off in the morning! I promise it will be worth those extra minutes of sleep you will miss!

Wake up before the kids

I have been doing this for two or three years, except on Sundays, and I am in a better mood when I go and wake my daughter up! I give myself about half an hour before I get her up and try to have my makeup done. Starting your day without having to worry about your little ones will make you feel peaceful and gives you time to just be before the madness begins!

Plan out your morning

I don’t know about you but I feel so much less stressed and anxious when I have a plan! I have our morning planned out to the tea, down to what time we have to leave so my daughter can be at school on time and I am not late to work. This has really helped with smoothing out our mornings because we both know what to expect and make sure we get everything done!

Be ready to leave the house 15 minutes before you have to

My daughter is someone who can not stand to be rushed. As soon as you start making her hurry or getting on her, her mood instantly changes. In order to combat this, I try to make sure we are ready to leave about 15 minutes before we actually have to be out the door! Of course, there are still lots of mornings where I have to rush her but overall we leave the house happy and not frustrated!

Start the day with gratitude

This may sound strange but I can’t tell you the difference starting the day with gratitude makes! Some mornings, I wake up and am already stressed before my feet touch the ground. As parents, I feel like we find ourselves running around so much and not stopping to enjoy the little moments. I really try to take even just 3 minutes each morning and stop to appreciate what I have. I take a few deep breaths and write down 5 things I am grateful for. Some days, if I’m being honest, it takes me a few minutes to find the things I am grateful for while other days it flows onto the page.

Our mornings are still a work in progress but these six tips have truly changed the way I start my day! What is one thing you do to have a more peaceful morning? Comment below or e-mail me at karen@karensincerely.com. XOXO
